'Satomi' is one of few kousa cultivars with red bracts. It was developed by Akiri Shibamichi who named it after his daughter. The 'Satomi' has good flower probability and its flowers are about 5 to 7.5cm in diameter. 'Satomi' grows well, but stays much smaller than the regular kousa. Its leaves are somewhat bulb-shaped and turn to beautiful shades of yellow and red in autumn. Caring for 'Satomi' is the same as the regular kousa, and the 'Satomi' is winterproof. Can grow to a height of 250 cm after 10 years.
